The most important conference in the EU in 2008?Jonas ”Birger” Birgersson was invited to make a presentation at the "FTTH Council Europe Conference"". Read about his experiences, the presentation and the reactions of the audience. Here you can also see his presentation, where he talks about Gigabit in Lund-the partnership with ViaEuropa. ""Crossing the Chasm to Mass Market Fibre"" was the theme of this year's conference. The first reaction was that everyone was there. And that there were many excited and anxious people in a very large group. Excited because the “super broadband - bandwagon” is really starting to roll, and anxious because it is getting more difficult to see who the winners or losers are. Not everyone will benefit from the development. But what I would say is that most people will agree, the coming years will be more dynamic for the Telecom industry than they have been for a very long time. The main thrust of the presentation was an overview of the Proof of Concept project: "Gigabit in Lund", which ViaEuropa is running in Lund together with Cisco, Labs² and others. Reception? Many good questions were asked and a lot of people wanted to discuss things after the presentation. In cooperation with Cisco, there were also some pleasant sessions with analysts from the big firms (Gartner, Yankee and others) and these discussions were so rewarding that I will be making a separate account about this later on. To sum up, what we are on the way to demonstrating in Gigabit in Lund may seem to be a typical ""nice for you in Scandinavia"" scenario, but as we will prove, it is a lot more fundamental than that. Because as you will soon notice, it is actually the beginning of Telecom 2.0. - Jonas Birgersson |
